TAHER CHEMIRIK (b.1955)

Taher Chemirik was born in 1955 in Algeria. He is a graduate of the ENSAD (École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs de Paris) and began as a costume designer for the Opéra de Paris and La Comédie Française. He later became the decorator for Ralph Lauren boutiques.

Since 1990, Chemirik turned his attention to jewellery collaborating with some of the worlds most famous fashion labels including Yves Saint Laurent, Chanel and Hermès. His designs are now part of the permanent collection at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs de Paris. By 2007, he was named one of the most influential designers by TIME Magazine for his signature designs and unique creations of jewellery.

In 2009, he began working on pieces for home décor working alongside world famous brands such as Christofle and Bernardaud.

Taher Chemirik has since started producing one-off and unique pieces of collectible furniture. Paying special attention to detail, he uses timeless materials such as brass, bronze and semi-precious stones to create special treasures suited for the home. Due to his unique background as a jeweller, Chemirik’s pieces have been placed in a special class of its own within the world of contemporary design.
